This rifle fires a 40 cm whisker of metal that is razor sharp along the sides as well as the points, and held in a straight line by an imposed magnetic dipole. It is whisper-quiet, both the discharge as well as the impact giving the user +3 to Hide (for concealing their attack). Many beings will only discover that their comrade has been assassinated when they roll the body over and find the filament protruding from the temple.
Additional benefits of this weapon are that it is relatively light, and has only minor recoil - making it useable to smaller and weaker combatants. A further sadistic characteristic is that the filament has a 1-in-6 chance of embedding in exposed flesh (unarmoured) when it hits. Becasue it crumples into complex and jagged shapes inside the muscle and organs, it causes the target to suffer a further 1D6 of damage to rip it out, or 1 point of damage every time they move that part of their anatomy. The filaments can be removed without harm by a medic or using a medical kit/pack if care is taken (taking an hour).
A major drawback to this weapon is that the filament projectiles are completely stopped by armour or shields.
