The Sear Gun was originally developed as a cutting tool, but was found to be too imprecise. It was discovered, however, that if you increase the power output tenfold it turned into a formidable weapon.
Output from a Sear Gun is a continuous discharge of energy. The energy is phase shifted such that it easily slices through most matter giving it the impressive severance rating of 6. This, however, has the side effect of making the energy beam highly unstable, causing it to look like a widely vibrating line of energy and making it somewhat difficult to aim. Consequently, the Sear Gun has no bonus to hit while most other assault weapons do.
This weapon is powered by a simple, oversized micro-fusion power supply. This supply can be intentionally detonated to cause an explosion of quadruple the weapon's normal damage (radius of effect = 3m).
