2nd Galactic War

2680 A nomadic race known as Xoids arrive in the First Galaxy.   They settle into a relatively unpopulated area, on almost the opposite side of the galaxy from the newly formed Confederation.  They encounter a few non-space faring civilisations and destroy them.  They spend the next few centuries stripping planets in the area for their resources.
3060 The great Hylosus scientist Koruk establishes the first one variable fold space portal.  The technology is perfected over the next few years.  The zero variable fold space gate at the planet Damonex is converted to a one variable fold space gate and becomes a hub of space exploration.
3068 One of the Confederation exploration ships travels through the fold space portal to the opposite end of the First Galaxy.  They encounter a small Xoid fleet which attacks them.  The exploration ship flees back through the fold space, but a Mega Xoid Centipede follows them through before the portal is closed.   The lone Mega Xoid evades Confederation forces and escapes out of the Damonex system.  It is last seen heading towards Xoid controlled space. 
3089 The Xoids, having determined the Confederation to be a threat, leave the area they have settled and start a campaign towards the other side of the galaxy.  They have two goals - destroy the Confederation and acquire the fold space technology for their own use.
3101 The first battle between the Xoids and the Confederation occurs on the outskirts of Confederation territory.  The Xoids easily smash through the Confederation defences.  The 2nd Galactic War has begun.
3101 to 3403 As the Xoids advance, the Confederation rallies its navy and strikes back.  The Xoids are slowed, but not stopped.  Over the next three hundred years, the Xoid fleet slowly advances deeper into Confederation territory.   The war drives the Confederation to advance quickly in the technology of space combat.  They learn from the Xoid tactics and start building ships immense enough to withstand the Xoid heavy cruisers.  But the advances come too late and the Confederation forces are beaten further back.
3404 Finally, the Xoids reach Damonex and the fold space gate.   The Confederation, predicting the Xoid intent, stationed an immense portion of its fleet and ground personnel to defend Damonex.  The battle is the largest yet in the war with the Xoids converging their entire fleet to the system.  The space battle is won quickly by the Xoids, but the ground invasion takes more time, as they don't want to accidentally destroy the technology they sought.  Meanwhile, the Confederation starts evacuating as many people as possible through the fold space gate.
3405 The remaining Confederation forces, after fighting desperately for over a year, come to the realisation that they are beaten.  The Xoids are close to breaking through the final line of defence.   In their final action, the Confederation forces find the largest stellar mass they can locate, aim the variable end of the fold space in the center of it and open the portal.  In the few milliseconds the portal is open, all of the energies from the center of the star pour out through the gate.  Damonex is shattered and the resulting blast destroys the remains of the Confederation forces plus almost the entire Xoid fleet.  The first nova bomb all but ends the war.
3406 In the aftermath, the Confederation forces which were not on Damonex arrive and disable or destroy most of the remaining Xoid ships.  The remaining Xoid forces flee.  The 2nd Galactic War is over.
